Dear President Wilhelm:
Over 40 years ago, a great movement was
born in the South that included a
historic Freedom Ride. This movement challenged America to live
up to its promises of freedom and justice for all. Even though our
nation has made great progress, we must continue to challenge America
to live up to basic ideals of human dignity and justice.
Today, millions of immigrant workers are
vulnerable to abuses in the workplace and have no road to citizenship
even as they make significant, valuable contributions to building
our economy and communities.
We must work together to bring attention
to the basic unfairness of America’s immigration policies.
In order to right these wrongs, I wholeheartedly support the launch
of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride.
I unfortunately cannot join you and your allies in Florida on February
26th because Congress will be in session, but rest assured that
my commitment to justice for immigrant workers extends beyond this
letter. I will be participating in the Immigrant Workers Freedom
Ride in the fall.
I look forward to joining you in this important
struggle. Best Wishes and remember to Keep you Eyes on the Prize!
Sincerely

John Lewis
Member of Congress
